Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Make a well in the center and add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- After resting, punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat.
- On a floured surface, roll each piece into an oval, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Carefully place one rolled naan onto the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another minute, or until it’s golden brown.
- Once cooked, remove from the skillet and brush with melted butter while still warm. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For a whole-grain option, substitute half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Ensure the dough rises adequately for a pillowy texture. Store naan properly by wrapping in aluminum foil or an airtight container. Reheat on a hot skillet or microwave with a damp paper towel.
