Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Make a well in the center and add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. After resting, punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. On a floured surface, roll each piece into an oval, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Carefully place one rolled naan onto the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another minute, or until it’s golden brown.
  8. Once cooked, remove from the skillet and brush with melted butter while still warm. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a whole-grain option, substitute half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Ensure the dough rises adequately for a pillowy texture. Store naan properly by wrapping in aluminum foil or an airtight container. Reheat on a hot skillet or microwave with a damp paper towel.
